Fixed-odds betting machines create 'vast social problems'

The UK government is considering giving Wales powers to ban fixed odds betting machines.

Baroness Eluned Morgan said that deregulating the industry was "one of the worst things Labour did."

The Labour peer and Welsh assembly member has now tabled an amendment to the Wales Bill to give Wales responsibility.

She told the House of Lords that £1.56 billion was staked annually on over 1,500 machines in Wales every year.

"They are creating vast social and health problems in our communities," said the AM for Mid and West Wales.
