NHS 'in better position than last winter' - Vaughan Gething

Not enough staff or hospital beds to meet demand and rising delays in discharging patients are just some of the concerns being put to the health secretary.

Vaughan Gething faced questions about NHS Wales' readiness for winter pressures.

More than a quarter of people turning up to A&E do not need to be there, it was claimed by the Assembly's health committee.

Mr Gething said the NHS Wales was in a better position than last winter but it was about people making the right health choices. But Conservative health spokeswoman Angela Burns AM said elderly patients were struggling to access their GP easily in the first place.
