Unite calls for Ford to 'stop blaming' Bridgend workers

Unite union's Len McCluskey has called on Ford to "stop blaming" workers in Bridgend for not being efficient enough.

It comes as the car company projects a potential 1,160 job losses at the plant over the next few years, unless there are changes and more business is brought in.

Gerard Coyne, who is challenging Mr McCluskey for the post of Unite general secretary, said the UK government "urgently needs to step in with financial support to secure the jobs at the Ford plant".

Mr McCluskey told BBC Wales business correspondent Brian Meechan the workforce was very highly skilled and suggesting they were not competitive enough was not helping.
