Teenager's pain after 'urgent' kidney surgery wait

A Carmarthenshire teenager has been waiting two and a half years for "urgent" kidney surgery.

Ethan Matthews, 14, from Burry Port, was told in December 2014 that he needed to have a non-functioning kidney removed.

He was referred to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and put on an "urgent waiting list" but is yet to have surgery.

Ethan is fitted with a tract in his side which he said limits him doing what he chooses, such as taking part in contact sports.

"It's really hard," he said.

A Cardiff and Vale University Health Board spokesman said "sometimes it is not possible to operate at a scheduled time".
