Eighty-tonne Ceredigion bridge raised to avoid floods

An 80-tonne railway bridge has been lifted in its entirety to stop it flooding.

Ceredigion’s Black Bridge has been left under water more than 30 times in 10 years, leaving residents near Machynlleth isolated.

It took six weeks and 32,000 hours of work to raise it a metre - winching it by hand.

Network Rail said the "innovative" £3.6m work would prevent line closures.
