Vaughan Gething is breaking stereotypes, says author

Children's author Jessica Dunrod has said Vaughan Gething has broken stereotypes for black people as he is set to become Europe’s first black leader.

Ms Dunrod welcomed the announcement of Mr Gething as the new Welsh Labour leader and successor to Mark Drakeford as Wales' first minister.

The Cardiff writer has written stories in both English and Welsh language to inspire black and ethnic minority children and has said it was "vital" black children saw themselves in books.

She said Mr Gething's own experiences would impact conversations and attitudes in Wales and Europe for the better.
