Chief vet says cases of TB in cattle down by almost a third

Incidents of TB in cattle have fallen by 28% according to the chief veterinary officer for Wales.

Speaking at the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd, Powys, Prof Christianne Glossop said a 45% cut in animals being culled had left 94% of herds TB free.

She said it was too early to determine if the decrease was down to the five-year badger vaccination programmes in Pembrokeshire, with results not expected for another two years.

The cost of vaccination could be reduced by providing landowners with grants to do some of the work themselves, she added.
