Taxation 'useful' for student doctor plan
A tax on sugary drinks would be 'useful' to help pay for a proposal to wipe out junior doctors' debts in exchange for a commitment to work in Wales, Plaid Cymru say.
Health spokesperson Elin Jones AM told Radio Wales' Good Morning Wales programme their proposals to boost the number of doctors was possible under the current health budget but money available through future tax-raising powers - including their proposal to tax fizzy, sugary drinks - would help with the plan.
Ms Jones also said the party wanted to increase places in medical schools in Wales and would consider free places for Welsh students.
It is proposing bursaries for Welsh-speaking students and guaranteed places for those who get the required grades.
