Politicians argue over scrapping of NHS commission

Plans to form a cross-party commission on the future of the NHS in Wales have been scrapped.

The decision came after Plaid Cymru announced it would not take part, following on from the Conservatives who previously pulled out.

Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Kirsty Williams said the decision would leave patients in Wales disappointed.

But in heated exchange, the Welsh Tory leader Andrew RT Davies criticised the whole process.

Tina Donnelly, director of the Royal College of Nursing Wales, told BBC Wales her organisation had wanted the commission to go ahead.

Ms Williams said the Welsh Tories had "thrown the toys out of the pram" by deciding not to go ahead after waiting 12 days to receive an official invitation to join the commission, while Mr Davies argued the terms of reference for the process had already been decided before it began.
