Swansea tidal lagoon 'about building a UK industry'

The Swansea tidal lagoon which is expected to feature in the chancellor's Budget could kick-start a UK-wide industry, BBC Wales' economics correspondent says.

The BBC understands George Osborne will announce the government is to enter formal negotiations over the subsidy the scheme would attract should it go ahead.

Sarah Dickins told Radio Wales' Good Morning Wales programme: "This isn't about building a tidal lagoon in Swansea, it's about several; and it's about building a new industry for the UK."

She said people in Wales could see a real financial benefit from the £1bn scheme, which would produce enough electricity to power 120,000 homes for 120 years.
