Funeral costs: 'Big hike' in council charge worries AM

An assembly member has asked for assurances Powys council is not profiteering from a 65% increase in funeral charges.

The cost of a standard adult burial will rise from about £1,054 to £1,740.

Powys said it had "no option" as it must find savings of £27m over the next three years.

Conservative AM Russell George said he understood the financial pressures on the authority, but wanted to be sure the increase was justified.
