Orlando attack: Replace hate with love, says MP Doughty

MPs have held a minute's silence in the Commons to remember the victims of a gun attack on a gay nightclub in Florida which killed at least 49 people.

Relatives and friends of the gunman, Omar Mateen, said he had expressed homophobic views. He also pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

Stephen Doughty, the Labour MP for Cardiff South and Penarth MP, was granted an urgent question on the terrorism threat to the UK following the Orlando atrocities.

Mr Doughty, who is gay, urged people to stand up to homophobia.
