UKIP's Neil Hamilton urges Nathan Gill to quit assembly

UKIP's assembly group leader Neil Hamilton has called on North Wales AM Nathan Gill to resign from the assembly after he announced he was quitting the party's group.

Mr Gill, who is also an MEP, has been criticised by some in the party for refusing to give up one of his two elected roles.

He said on Wednesday he would sit in the Senedd as an independent, claiming that the "infighting" had become "a distraction to the work we were elected to do".

Mr Hamilton said Mr Gill had been elected under the UKIP banner and claimed he had no right to keep his seat.
