Music lessons have saved people from prison, Hughes says

Music education is vital for children's development, a leading conductor has told AMs.

Owain Arwel Hughes said music taught self-discipline and team work, useful for youngsters even if they do not take up music as a career.

Mr Hughes claimed there was a "crisis" in funding school music lessons, and called for the setting up of a national "hub" with public funding to encourage music education for all.

Some people had even claimed learning music saved them from prison, he added.
