Fire crews 'quite shocked' after 30 youths attacked

A fire station manager has described how crews were "quite shocked" after about 30 youths threw stones at them.

The firefighters were attacked while they attended a deliberately-lit rubbish fire in Torfaen.

South Wales Fire and Rescue service said one firefighter was hit on the helmet by a stone but no-one was hurt in the incident at Beddick in Greenmeadow, Cwmbran, just before 19:00 BST on Saturday.

Tony Jackson, the station manager in Cwmbran, said the firefighters' efforts were hampered but they still managed to extinguish the fire.
