India hopes to resolve oldest ethnic conflict with Nagas

This year, India is hoping to resolve its oldest ethnic conflict, in the north-eastern state of Nagaland.

The Naga separatists declared their independence from India hours before the country gained its own independence in 1947. Thousands have died since then.

Now India is hoping that its booming economy will encourage the Nagas to reconsider, paving the way for similar resolutions in other conflicts in the north-east and elsewhere.

In part one of a two-part series, the BBC's Sanjoy Majumder travelled to Nagaland to see if the state can succeed in its goal.
