Libyan migrants flee wrecked boat outside Lampedusa

Hundreds of migrants from Libya have been rescued off the Italian coast after their boat ran aground as it approached the island of Lampedusa.

Coastguards say the boat hit rocks as it approached the island of Lampedusa, forcing many on board to jump into the sea - an official says everyone has been rescued.

Lampedusa has seen more than 30,000 people arriving from North Africa since the uprisings began at the start of the year.
