Eurozone crisis: Greece PM makes plea for German support

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has made an impassioned plea to German business leaders to help his country out of its debt crisis.

The prime minister said Greece was making a superhuman effort to reduce its debt, bringing in unprecedented reforms to become competitive again.

Mr Papandreou is in Germany for talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss his country's progress in cutting its budget deficit.

His visit comes as policymakers decide whether to release the latest tranche of Greek bailout funds.

Ms Merkel said Germany would give "any support possible" to rebuild confidence in Greece again.

The German Parliament will vote later this week on more guarantees for the euro rescue fund.

But recent polls suggest more than three quarters of Germans oppose pledging further money to debt-ridden countries.
