Nelson Mandela 'increasingly frail'

Former South Africa President Nelson Mandela has been taken to hospital.

Officials say he has been suffering from a "long-standing abdominal complaint" which doctors felt needed "proper specialist medical attention".

The 93-year-old statesman and anti-apartheid icon has suffered from declining health in recent years.

Speaking to the BBC, Jean-Jacques Cornish from 702 Talk Radio in Johannesburg said that Mr Mandela is "increasingly frail" and has all but vanished from the public arena in recent years.
