Catholics across the world welcome Pope Francis

Catholics across the world have been voicing their joy at the election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Pope Francis.

He was not among those many had considered the frontrunners. At 76, he will be an older pontiff than many were expecting.

It is also the first time in more than a millennium that the pope will hail from shores beyond Europe.
