Painkiller prescriptions rise 20% in five years

Prescriptions for painkillers in Wales have increased by 20% in the last five years.

Health experts have told BBC Wales' Week In Week Out programme they are concerned that thousands of people in chronic pain are being failed because specialist services are patchy and underfunded.

Five years ago the Welsh Government called on health boards to set up a range of pain management services but the results have been mixed.
