Edward Snowden granted asylum in Russia

The American computer contractor who leaked details of secret surveillance programmes has left the airport in Moscow where he had been stranded for more than five weeks.

Edward Snowden has been granted temporary asylum in Russia. He had been in limbo since his travel documents were cancelled by the US, where he wanted for espionage.

Mr Snowden's lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, said his client had gone into hiding.
