Row over Japan's UN bid for kamikaze pilot letters

Japan wants to immortalise its kamikaze pilots - a squad of young pilots who crashed their aircraft into World War Two Allied ships - by enshrining their final letters as UN world heritage items.

The Unesco's Memory of the World Register already includes such items including the diary of Anne Frank, but Japan's application has triggered a furious reaction in China, which believes that for Japan to try to get letters from "suicide bombers" included is to beautify aggression.

Rupert Wingfield-Hayes reports for BBC Newsnight and meets a man who survived a kamikaze mission.
