100 Women 2014: Why should we care?

A year on from the BBC's inaugural 100 Women event, there are still many challenges facing the world's women.

From domestic violence and honour killings to the issue of access to education, women in all societies continue to push for greater rights, freedoms and more equality.

As the BBC prepares for a second 100 Women season - this one more interactive and more global than the last - Lucy Hockings looks back at 2013 and highlights some of the key issues for 2014.

The BBC's 100 Women season runs online, on BBC World News TV and on BBC World Service radio from 27-29 October.
