Australia's booming crocodile population

The saltwater crocodile - once facing extinction - is now a big tourist draw in Australia.

The population has now risen to around 200,000 and the reptiles, which can reach seven metres long and weigh up to 1,000 kilos - are being seen as a hazard to humans again.

Australia is now seeking to control their numbers.

The Travel Show's Rajan Datar went to the Malcolm Douglas Wilderness Wildlife Park near Broome, Western Australia.

It offers a sanctuary for crocodiles that could be shot in the wild, but also has its own breeding programme in order to cull them and sell their skins for luxury fashion items. That is the paradoxical world of wildlife conservation.
