Valcke: 2026 World Cup bidding process postponed

The bidding process for the 2026 World Cup has been postponed, amid allegations of corruption around the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.

FIFA's Secretary General Jerome Valcke made the announcement at a news conference in the southern Russian city of Samara, one of the host cities for the 2018 event.

The decision on the 2026 tournament was due to be made in Kuala Lumpur in May 2017.
