Russia launches Syria air strikes

Russian warplanes have begun carrying out attacks against so-called Islamic State targets in Syria.

President Putin has said Russia is intervening in the war at the invitation of the Syrian leader, President Bashar al-Assad.

It means that for the first time in Syria, US and Russian fighter jets are in action at the same time in the same airspace but with a different aim.
