Migrant postcards: Why I left Somalia for Europe

Ahmed Umar, 20, from Somalia, tells the BBC why he decided to leave Mogadishu, the capital city of his native country.

Now travelling with a group of 15 others, he says a combination of violence in Mogadishu and a lack of work and education opportunities prompted him to leave.

He travelled from Somalia to Turkey via Iran, before joining a boat crossing to Greece, where the vessel hit problems.

He says his aim is to reach Germany and to work there.
