South Sudanese wait in long lines for chance to vote

Huge numbers of people in South Sudan are casting their votes in a referendum on independence.

The poll will decide whether the mainly Christian south secedes from the Arab north, with only people in the south are being allowed to vote.

US President Barack Obama has said it was an "historic step" towards implementing the comprehensive peace deal that ended the war between north and south in 2005.
