Protesters in Tunisia test president's concessions

Thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets in Tunis calling on their President, Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, to quit immediately.

On Thursday night, Mr Ben Ali - who has governed Tunisia since 1987 - announced he would stand down in 2014.

His announcement followed days of protests by people angry at rising prices and lack of freedoms.

Around 23 people have died.
