Sudan vote 'a good result', says ambassador

Southern Sudan voted overwhelmingly for independence, election officials have confirmed.

They said nearly 99% of the voters in January's referendum were in favour of dividing Africa's biggest country.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir said he would accept the outcome of the vote.

Sudan's Ambassador to the UK, Mr Abdullahi Al-Azrag, told the BBC it was "a good result" and denied that the north would lose out economically from the split.
