Chelsea player Drogba appeals for peace in his homeland

The Ivorian national football team captain Didier Drogba told the BBC that the people of his homeland have done as much as they can to resolve the political situation in his country.

The African Union has proposed a government of national unity headed by Alassane Ouattara, the man whom most of the international community accepts as having won November's disputed election there.

But representatives of Laurent Gbagbo, the Ivory Coast president who refuses to leave office, have rejected the AU's recommendation aimed at resolving the country's crisis.

The Ivory Coast and Chelsea player, who has openly campaigned for peace in Ivory Coast in the past, spoke to the BBC's Piers Edwards in Barcelona.
