Kenyan villagers sing in praise of water

Tuesday marks World Water Day as the United Nations seeks to raise the issue of massive water shortages.

Hundreds of millions of people around the world face a daily struggle to ensure a supply of clean, fresh water.

The people of Daaba village in Kenya have good reason to sing as they gather water from wells.

Before they built the wells they had to source their water from the Ewaso river, 45 miles (70 km) away from the village.

BBC Swahili producer Kenneth Mungai visited this succesful community-led development project. Tim Haynes reports.
