Laurent Gbagbo to face legal proceedings

Ivory Coast's defeated President, Laurent Gbagbo, will face legal proceedings, says Alassane Ouattara, the man who has replaced him as the country's leader.

President Ouattara has urged restraint after the dramatic capture of his bitter rival.

Announcing an investigation into the former president, he promised him a fair trial and said a truth-and-reconciliation commission would be established.

Mr Gbagbo surrendered after a military assault on his residence in Abidjan.

The BBC's Daniel Griffiths reports.
