Gaddafi and Zuma discuss Libya conflict

The South African president, Jacob Zuma, has held talks in Libya with Colonel Gaddafi on how to resolve the conflict there.

Mr Zuma told reporters that the Libyan leader was ready to accept an African Union proposal for a ceasefire but he did not say Colonel Gaddafi was ready to step down.

Speaking in Tripoli, the BBC's Andrew North said television pictures showed the two men meeting - the first time the Libyan leader has been seen in public since May 11.
