Rebel fighters in Misrata are inching their way westwards towards Zliten, a crucial town on the road to Tripoli.

But intense front-line battles are taking a heavy toll on the city's doctors who say they cannot cope with the number of injured.

Colonel Gaddafi has ruled out talks with rebels in Libya, describing the uprising as a 'lost cause' in a speech broadcast late last night.
