East Africa drought: UK minister's Somalia aid pledge

As many as 400,000 children could starve to death in Somalia without urgent action to tackle the famine, according to the UK international development secretary.

Andrew Mitchell, the first British minister to visit Mogadishu in almost 20 years, pledged £25m ($41.5m) in aid during a visit to the war-torn city.

Some 500,000 victims of the famine are in aid camps around the capital, where supplies are frequently disrupted by fighting.

Karen Allen reports from Mogadishu.
