Libya crisis: Sirte region the 'new front line'

There are reports of sporadic gunfire from inside the Libyan city of Sirte, where pro-Gaddafi forces have been given until Saturday to surrender.

Fighters supporting the interim government are observing a ceasefire for Eid al-Fitr, but reconnaissance teams in Sirte say they have been fired upon by Gaddafi loyalists.

Securing the region around Sirte and Bani Waled, to the west, is a crucial strategic step as the new government tries to eradicate Gaddafi's supporters.

Ian Pannell reports from the road to the west of Sirte.
