Saving Ghana's flooded music archive

One of the best known musical genres from West Africa is highlife which originated in Ghana at the beginning of the 20th Century.

Thousands of highlife recordings have been preserved in vinyl and tape but many of them have not yet been digitised.

Accra-based musicologist John Collins, a naturalised Ghanaian of European descent, put together an enormous collection of them.

But three weeks after severe floods hit the capital, Professor Collins told the BBC's Samuel Bartels that he is still counting the cost to the archives.
