Zimbabwe: Mugabe calls for elections next year

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, has called for elections next year as he attempts to win another term in office.

He was speaking at the ruling party's annual congress in Bulawayo where the delicate issue of who might succeed him was not discussed.

Mr Mugabe, who is 87, has been in power for the past 31 years but even after a power sharing deal three years ago, there remain serious concerns in the country.

The BBC's Africa Correspondent, Andrew Harding, reports.
