Thousands of armed miners march on Marikana in S Africa

Thousands of South African mine workers demanding improved salaries have ignored union calls to return to work at a mine where 34 of their colleagues were shot dead in August.

Armed with sticks, machetes and spears, the strikers marched from shaft to shaft of Lonmin's Marikana mine, threatening to kill strike-breakers.

Nomsa Maseko reports.
