Villagers dig for diamonds to survive in Ivory Coast

People in the village of Tortiya in the north of Ivory Coast are prospecting for diamonds in the hope that the embargo on diamond exports imposed by the United Nations in 2004 will be lifted.

The embargo was part of a raft of sanctions imposed on the Ivory Coast during the civil war that split the country in 2002.

Tom Bayly reports.
