Civilians flee violence in DR Congo

Civilians are fleeing in increasing numbers as the M23 rebels continue to mount the most serious threat to the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo in recent years.

The rebels captured the small town of Sake, 27km (17 miles) west of Goma, on Wednesday and threatened to march to the capital, Kinshasa, to overthrow President Joseph Kabila.

About 500,000 people have been displaced by the rebellion since April.
