Motlanthe: South Africa 'won't take second-best'

In a BBC interview, South Africa's Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said he does "take responsibility" for failures of the governing African National Congress (ANC).

Mr Motlanthe is one of only two candidates in the forthcoming leadership contest for the ANC.

President Zuma is up for re-election at the conference in Mangaung, where the ANC was founded 100 years ago.

Speaking to Newsday's Lerato Mbele ahead of the vote, he welcomed public opinion, saying: "At least we have a population of activists. A population that is not prepared to accept second-best".
