French and Malian troops 'may face little resistance' in Timbuktu

French troops encountered little resistance in Gao and it is thought that they should not have too much trouble re-taking Timbuktu, according to Thomas Fessy in the capital.

But, speaking from Bamako, the BBC reporter said that once they had secured the three major towns in Mali's north, operations may prove "a little more difficult".
