Nigeria oil leaks: Shell 'partly liable' for damage
A court in the Netherlands has ruled that Shell Nigeria is partly responsible for oil leaks that caused environmental damage to land and waterways in the Niger Delta region.
The court dismissed four of the five allegations in the case, brought by campaign group Friends of the Earth and four Nigerian farmers.
But the judge said Shell Nigeria should have done more to prevent sabotage, and ordered compensation be paid to one of the farmers.
Farmer Mene Eric Barizaa Dooh, whose claim was one of those dismissed, spoke to the BBC before the verdict.
He said oil caused a fire which destroyed his land.
