Mali conflict: Timbuktu shakes off militant rule

Life in the Mali city of Timbuktu is gradually becoming more colourful after 10 months of strict Sharia law.

It follows the recapture of the city from Islamist militants by French-led troops earlier this week.

Music, bright clothes and many forms of socialising were declared blasphemous by the militant Islamists and punished by whippings, amputations and executions.

Thomas Fessy reports from Timbuktu.
