A Feast to celebrate Yoruba culture

Feast, a play celebrating West Africa's Yoruba culture and its impact in the Americas and Europe, is showing at the Young Vic theatre in London.

It centres on the journey from Nigeria to Brazil, Cuba, the United States and the United Kingdom, from the times of slavery to the present, of four Yoruba deities - the orishas Oshun, Oya, Yemonja and Eshu - through their reincarnations in different black women and men.

After seeing it, BBC Africa's Manuel Toledo spoke to the play's director, Rufus Norris, actress Noma Dumezweni, choreographer George Cespedes and one of the five playwrights involved in the project, Nigeria's Rotimi Babatunde.

He started by asking Mr Norris how the idea for the play was born.
