'Every African schoolchild grew up with Chinua Achebe'

Renowned Nigerian author Chinua Achebe has died, the spokesman for the Anambra state government has told the BBC.

One of Africa's best known authors, the 82 year old's debut 1958 novel Things Fall Apart has sold more than 10 million copies.

According to Bilkisu Labaran, from the BBC's Focus on Africa programme, "every African schoolchild basically grew up with Chinua Achebe, every schoolchild read Things Fall Apart".
