Gunmen launch deadly attack on Somalia courthouse

Armed gunmen from the Islamist militant group Al-Shabab have launched a series of coordinated attacks in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killing at least 19 people.

It began with intruders storming the main law courts, setting off at least two explosions. Many people were inside at the time and were trying to escape by breaking and climbing out of the windows.

A number of people were taken hostage and running battles with police and armed forces lasted more than two hours. There has also been an attack on an aid agency convoy on the main road to the airport and a third one at an unconfirmed location.

The BBC's World Affairs correspondent Nick Childs reports.
